How a relation becomes a system

Scroll. The diagram on the right is not an illustration of the essay. It is the essay, constructed in the same order as the argument.

01 · An element

Begin with one thing. Isolated, it has presence but no meaning beyond itself. A concept that does not yet relate cannot explain.

02 · A relation

A second element appears. The line between them is the first claim: these two participate in the same structure. The claim is visible before it is named.

03 · A consequence

From the relation, a third state becomes possible. It did not exist at the start. Emergence is not a label added at the end — it is what the previous steps make inevitable.

04 · A system

Only now are the parts named. Naming too early pretends the structure was always complete. Understanding is the structure appearing in time.
